Last week Templestowe Valley Primary School hosted the Manningham Public Speaking Competition, run by the Rotary Club of Templestowe. There were [7] schools attending, both private and State, from the Manningham Schools Network. TVPS was represented by Year 6 students – Heidi D [6L] and Adam H [6L]. Heidi’s topic was “The Superpower I would like to have is…..” whilst Adam chose “Sports are for Everyone”! The judges commented on the confidence shown and the quality of their presentations – congratulations Heidi and Adam! TVPS staff members and parents attending were likewise highly impressed and gave our representatives a rousing round of applause at the conclusion of their speeches. We look forward to seeing Heidi and Adam present again at assembly in a fortnight!

Special thanks to Mrs Fowler, ably supported by Mrs Broome, for organizing the Competition for the TVPS students and to Mrs Selwyn, Miss Rossi, Mr Cretney, Mr Eagleton and Mrs Ellenby for assisting on the night.

The Flying Start program for Foundation 2019 students continued on Wednesday with over [50] parents in attendance. The second session for the students consisted of Library [Mrs Gough] and Interactive Whiteboard activities [Mrs Georgakopoulos & Mrs Matrakis]. During the student’s work time, the parents had a cuppa while chatting with the Assistant Principal, Mrs Ellenby and other parents about the curriculum and student welfare.

Last Friday was a Curriculum Day for TVPS. The teachers took part in professional development workshops, in conjunction with Donvale PS, on High Impact Teaching Strategies and Practice Principles.  The Curriculum Day was held at the Heidelberg Golf Club function centre in Lower Plenty. The workshops were conducted by Isobel McLellan, Education Improvement Leader, DET. A great deal of practical knowledge, as regards teaching & learning, was gained and followed up in the classroom since. This included differentiated teaching methodology, multiple sources of feedback and questioning techniques. We hope that all families enjoyed the 4-day weekend [including Queen’s Birthday holiday].

The number enrolments for Foundation 2019 at TVPS is steadily increasing. If there are any TVPS families who are yet to enrol their child for Foundation, could they please do so as soon as possible? The planning process for next year – the staffing for Foundation and the number of grades – can more easily be worked out – thank-you.

Bye for now!
