WELCOME BACK – A warm welcome back to school to all TVPS families! It promises to be a busy Term 3 with Level 3 Camp to Phillip Island, Mrs Wishy-Washy Day, Foundation Excursion to Chesterfield Farm, Level 4 Camp to Warburton East, Numeracy and Literacy Week, Parents Trivia Night, District Athletics and Swimming. A number of fortunate students took to the slopes for snowboarding & tobogganing adventures on the holidays whilst others ventured to the warmer climate in Queensland or overseas. Miss McPherson enjoyed a wonderful three weeks LSL in the USA where she caught up with the Vlahopoulos family. I wish everyone a successful and enjoyable Term 3!
STATE CROSS COUNTRY
We congratulate Rachel W [4L] and Livinia A [5B] on their outstanding performances at the State Cross Country Final, held at Bundoora Park last Thursday. Rachel and Livinia finished in 3rd and 9th places respectively. Rachel will now represent Victoria at the National Cross Country Championships, to be held on the Gold Coast this Term.
STUDENT OPINION SURVEY
The Student Attitudes to School Survey, Years 4-6, was completed in June. The results have been forwarded to school and will be discussed with students this Term. A general overview of key findings will be published in the Principal’s column in due course. We value student voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. The school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve the student’s schooling experience.
There have been many articles in the daily newspapers recently talking about inactivity levels in school students. We are proud of the approach that many TVPS families adopt in getting their children involved in weekend sporting programs. The variety of sporting involvement is endless with cricket, softball, hockey, soccer, basketball, martial arts, horse-riding, netball, competitive swimming and AFL football to name but a few. We hope that the trend continues for the children’s sake.
The After School Care children and their coordinators, Wendy Lincoln and Andrea Duske celebrated NAIDOC WEEK in Term 3 by making Aboriginal damper.
MRS M’s AWARD
Mrs Matrakis celebrated 40 years of teaching last weekend at the Great Hall, National Gallery of Victoria. Mrs M was invited, along with 350 other guests, to attend a presentation ceremony to receive a certificate of recognition from the State Minister of Education, the Hon James Merlino MP. It is a wonderful achievement and one that demonstrates Mrs M’s dedication, resilience and passion for her chosen profession. Well done Mrs M!!

PARENT OPINION SURVEY
The Parent Opinion Survey will be emailed [through Compass] to the randomly selected families at the end of this week. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 23rd July to Sunday 26thAugust.
The message from DET states:
“The annual Parent Opinion survey is mandatory for schools to participate in; it is an important part of parent engagement and assists with future planning and improvement. The survey is confidential and designed to protect the identity of individual respondents”.
We appreciate the time and effort that families contribute to providing feedback to the teaching staff, School Council and other parents. Thanking you in anticipation!
ENROLMENTS FOR 2019
The number enrolments for Foundation 2019 at TVPS is steadily increasing. If there are any TVPS families who are yet to enrol their child for Foundation, could they please do as soon as possible? The planning process for next year – the staffing for Foundation and the number of grades – can more easily be worked out – thank-you.
Bye for now!
