Hi Everyone,

Glee Club Choir at K-Mart

The Glee Club Choir, conducted by Miss McCormack, has been doing a number of public performances recently including at Templestowe Manor, Thompson’s Road and K-Mart, The Pines. The following is a letter received this week from Nella Feliciani, the Lifestyle Assistant at Templestowe Manor;

“Just letting you know how wonderful it was to have The School Choir visiting and performing for us this morning. The residents are still talking about them. It will be amazing to have The Choir performing for us again at our Christmas Party on the 19th of December. Kind Regards, Nella”.

The carol singing performance at K-Mart was to launch the Christmas Appeal and the wishing well for underprivileged children. It was a very moving exhibition by the Choir and one that was appreciated by the shoppers and parent on-lookers. The manager of the K-Mart store presented each of our students with a gift and cake after the singing.

Staff News – Departures

It is with pleasure but also a tinge of sadness that I let you know about the appointments of TVPS Staff Members to other teaching positions within the Education sector for 2019.

*Miss Jane McPherson has been appointed to the role of e-Learning Coordinator at Penleigh & Essendon Grammar School for 2019. The position, which will span Foundation to Year 12, will expand on the work that Miss McPherson is currently doing at TVPS in a far larger educational setting.  We thank Miss McPherson for the outstanding work she has done as 3M classroom teacher, Coordinator of Level 3 and as member of the Manningham/Monash STEM Committee.

*Mrs Rachel Broome has been appointed to the Learning Specialist [Mathematics] position at Beverley Hills PS. Mrs Broome has given wonderful service teaching Grades 4 and 6 but also has been inspirational in organizing ICAS Competitions, Maths Olympiad and student leadership roles during her time here.

*Mr Matthew Lewis has been appointed to Montmorency PS and will join former TVPS teachers Miss Kristie Morrison [Acting AP in 2019] and Mrs Janene Worssam [Principal] at that school. Mr Lewis has been an outstanding practitioner in the classroom and a role model in working with focus groups in Literacy. TVPS is grateful to Mr Lewis for being the Literacy Coordinator and for the magnificent development of the Asian Garden.

Staff Appointments

The list of staff appointments to Grades for 2019 will be published in the November 28th newsletter, following the next round of teacher interviews. I can let you know at this point that the Foundation teachers will be Miss Boal [Coordinator], Miss Bombardiere’ and Miss Georgakopoulos. Mr Cretney will return to teaching in Grade 6 and will be partnered by a recent appointee who has been teaching Grade 5&6 at another school for the past [3] years.

Twilight Market

Recently the OSHC Club conducted a Twilight Market for Templestowe Valley Primary School. Held under the Outdoor Gymnasium canopy, the market was an outstanding success with over $1,500 being raised for the school. Those attending – from the school and the local community – enjoyed shopping for bargains at the large variety of stalls. There was a vast array of merchandise on sale including blankets, hot air balloons, candles, friendship bands, ‘green slime’, jewellery, cakes, lemon butter and barbecue sausages! Special thanks are extended to the organizers – Wendy and Andrea at OSHC and the OSHC students, who enjoyed serving on the stalls.

School Disco

Congratulations and special thanks to Melinda Minuzzo and the Parents & Friends for organizing the school disco the other Friday evening. It was an outstanding success – the students had a wonderful evening dancing and singing along to their favourite tunes! The glow sticks added an extra dimension and loads of colour. Mr David Cursio, who operated the music [together with the light show and smoke machine!], kept the evening flowing, stamping his own personality on the disco – the social event of the year!

Grade 2 Sleep-Over

Last Friday night the Grade 2 students took part in a sleep-over at TVPS. Prior to bedding down in their classrooms, the students had dinner together [pizza] and a drawing session with well-known cartoonist, Richard Galbraith. When it was time for bed, sleeping was the order of the day to which the students readily complied! The students were awake by 6am and after packing up their sleeping bags they ventured outside for a games session with Mr Eagleton and the Principal. A breakfast of cereal and fruit followed, before the students departed at 8am – to go home and have some more sleep! Special thanks are extended to Mrs Nikolakakis for organizing the sleep-over and the other teachers attending including Mrs Bertelli, Mrs Drew, Mrs Marshall, Mrs Vasiliadis, Mr Venables, Mr Eagleton & Mrs Gough.

Foundation Orientation Commences

The first of the three Orientation sessions for the 2019 Foundation students took place last Friday [1:30 – 2:30pm]. The students were taken for a classroom lesson by the [3] Foundation teachers [Miss Boal, Miss Bombardiere’ and Miss Georgakopoulos] whilst their parents were addressed by the Principal, Mrs Broome [Big Friends, Little Friends program], Melinda Minuzzo [Parents & Friends], Bettina Jessup [Uniform Shop] and Michelle from the Lower Templestowe Commonwealth Bank. There will be two more Orientation sessions in the coming fortnight.

Basketball Manager Required

Mrs Juliet Alexander has decided to step down from her role as Valley Titans Basketball Coordinator at the end of this year. Parents who are interested in taking up this role may submit a brief written expression of interest, outlining their experience, to the Principal by Friday November 23rd. TVPS is indebted for the outstanding work that Juliet has done as Manager. Her role has included organizing the teams, arranging coaches, sourcing sponsors, arranging fixtures, organizing uniforms and trophies. Well done and thank-you Juliet!

Extraordinary School Council Meeting

All TVPS parents are cordially invited to attend an extraordinary School Council meeting to be conducted in the Multi-purpose Hall on Monday December 3rd commencing at 7pm. At this meeting, the School Councillors will be introducing themselves and outlining achievements made during 2018 as well as plans for next year. If any parents would like to ask a question, it is requested that it be submitted in writing to the Principal [via email] before November 26th.

Bye for now,

Graeme Renshaw
