On Wednesday the 21st of November the grade 6’s had a fire safety incursion by the firemen from the Templestowe fire station. The firemen spoke to us about all of the jobs they perform in the community which can include animal rescue, road accident response, fire prevention and of course fighting fire. The men also taught us about the fire triangle, which illustrates the simple models for understanding the necessary ingredients for most fires. The triangle displays the three elements a fire needs to ignite: heat, fuel, and an oxidizing agent (usually oxygen). We were also given an opportunity to ask the fireman about their profession. One of the fireman mentioned one of the biggest fires they had to fight which was the Coode island fire in 1991.
