Election Day Barbecue & Cake Stall
Special thanks to the Parents & Friends, in particular Eva Wong and Cameron Powell, for conducting the barbecue and cake stall outside the polling booth [Multi-purpose Hall] on Saturday. We would also like to thank the many generous families who donated the delicious cakes and biscuits for the stall. I hope that all the Lower Templestowe families took advantage of dropping by to purchase a barbecue sausage and/or cake on their way home from voting! The TVPS produce was the envy of the Bulleen Electorate!
Softball Team at State Final Play-off
Congratulations to the Boys Softball Team that competed at the State Championships on Wednesday at Jells Park. The team played  matches against the following schools – The Lakes P-9 College, Wonthaggi PS and Sorrento PS. The Team was successful in two of its three matches but narrowly missed out playing in the Grand Final. We congratulate the coach, Mr Eagleton and the students [listed below] on a fine effort;
The Chickens Are Laying
The students were excited when the first egg was laid in the chicken pen at the Sustainability area. It is now common practice for at least two eggs to be laid each day! The hens are now much loved pets of all the students who frequent the area. Special thanks to Miss Georgakopoulos who coordinates the Sustainability program and to the many families who look after the chickens on weekends.
Following an extensive interview process, three staff appointments were made to fill the classroom positions vacated by departing staff members.
*Miss Nicole Bisas, a former student at TVPS, has been teaching for  years, including eighteen months in the UK. Miss Bisas, who has a strong background in Maths & ICT, has taught extensively at Grade 5&6 level. Miss Bisas enjoys visual arts, film appreciation and keeping fit in her leisure time.
*Miss Kimberley Shannon, who lives in Templestowe, was a former pupil of Carey Grammar School P-12. A keen sportsperson, Miss Shannon was Vice-captain of the 1st soccer team where she gained sporting colours. Miss Shannon has a strong interest in the teaching of mathematics using concrete materials, ICT and games. She coordinates this subject at her current school. Miss Shannon currently plays soccer and coaches Under 9’s &10’s Girls for Boroondara Eagles SC.
*Ms Nicole Hudson completed her pre-service teaching training at TVPS. Ms Hudson formerly worked for the Victorian Government for  years in various Departments including Fisheries and Responsible Pet Ownership. Ms Hudson, who has a Teacher of Swimming qualification, has worked extensively with Grade 3&4 students in Reading and Maths Recovery.
Foundation Orientation Concludes
The final of the three Orientation sessions for the 2019 Foundation students took place last Friday [1:30 – 2:30pm]. The students were taken for a classroom lesson by the  Foundation teachers [Miss Boal, Miss Bombardiere’ and Miss Georgakopoulos] whilst their parents were addressed by the Assistant Principal, Mrs Ellenby [Student Welfare], Mr Cretney [COMPASS], Mrs Maya Tesa [parent contact] and Andrea Genat [Educational Psychologist]. We are grateful to all staff members who took part in Transition and Orientation programs throughout 2018 and in particular, Miss Bombardiere’, the Foundation Transition Coordinator, for her organization.
Basketball Manager Appointment
We congratulate and thank Mr Paul Krisohos for taking on the role of Valley Titans Basketball Manager for 2019. Mr Krisohos has vast experience in managing junior sporting teams currently coaching basketball and AFL Girls Football teams.
The TVPS community is indebted to Mrs Juliet Alexander for the outstanding work that she has done as Manager. This has included organizing the teams, arranging coaches, arranging fixtures, sourcing sponsors, organizing uniforms and trophies. Well done & thank-you Juliet!
Extraordinary School Council Meeting
All TVPS parents are invited to attend an extraordinary School Council meeting in the Multi-purpose Hall on Monday December 3rd commencing at 7pm. At this meeting, the School Councillors will be introducing themselves and outlining achievements made during 2018 as well as plans for next year.
