GYMNASTICS IN PHYS ED. – Mr Eagleton writes; “Students in Grades 3M, 3P and Years 4, 5 and 6 have been participating in Gymnastics in their PE lesson. The program is taught by Brett, a coach from BTYC Gymnastics. The Gymnastics program offers an excellent opportunity for students to use a variety of gymnastics equipment and learn new skills. This includes, jumping and landing from mini tramp and beat board, handstand and cartwheel, various hanging positions from single and parallel bars and forward roll. Students in Foundation, Years 1 and 2 and Grade 3R will start Gymnastics in Week 6”. Special thanks to Mr Eagleton for organizing the gymnastics program at TVPS.

Somers camp, owned and operated by DET, is renowned for being the best student camp in Victoria. It boasts a host of exciting outdoor activities including surfing, orienteering, climbing wall, mountain bike riding, archery, a giant swing and flying fox. As well, there is an environmental centre, which houses an array of live animals including reptiles – the students will get to handle them, under teacher supervision! We hope that the students and teachers find the camp a valuable educational and social experience!

PARKING IN CAVENDISH DRIVE
The Principal was informed on Monday of problems concerning parking in Cavendish Drive recently. The matter was discussed at School Council that night. Since then there have been follow-up phone calls and a letter sent to Manningham City Council on Wednesday. I shall keep the TVPS school community informed of the outcome of the discussions with Manningham CC. In the meantime, parents and staff members are advised that by-laws officers will be patrolling Cavendish Drive in coming days and booking cars that are disobeying the parking guidelines. A note of thanks is extended to parents who have been offering suggestions as to how to remedy the parking problems.
SCHOOL COUNCIL SUB-COMMITTEES
Parents at TVPS are invited to join the various Sub-committees of School Council including Parents & Friends, Education, Buildings & Grounds, Canteen and Uniform Shop. The Parents & Friends meet to plan activities such as Mothers’ & Fathers’ Day stalls, fundraising and family barbecues. The Uniform shop is open on Mondays during after assembly whilst the Canteen is open every day and is always seeking assistance. If parents are considering joining a School Council Sub-committee, they may phone the General Office on 8850-5777 and they will be contacted by the convenor.
The second working bee for the year will be held on Saturday May 12th, commencing at 9am. There will be a lot of weeding, pruning, sweeping and spout clearing to be done. In addition, there are long bench seats to be installed under the outdoor gymnasium canopy. If families are able to attend, even for an hour, it would be most appreciated. Morning tea refreshments and a barbecue luncheon will be provided.
Bye for now!
