My name is Graeme Renshaw and I am Principal of Templestowe Valley Primary School. I have proudly served in this position for the past 12 years.
I hope that you will enjoy looking through our website. We are justifiably proud of our school that has a reputation for a comprehensive, challenging curriculum, academic excellence, lasting friendships between community members and catering for the individual. The school is situated in a quiet, treed setting with shaded seating areas and well maintained buildings. There is an emphasis on sustainability with a vegetable garden, worm farm, water tanks, paper recycling and solar energy production.
In 2017, the student achievement data consistently placed Templestowe Valley PS in the top 20% of Government schools in Victoria. We offer a gifted and talented, “Da Vinci” program, to enhance those students who desire extension work beyond the classroom. As well as this, EMU Maths intervention, EAL and Literacy Support [‘Reading Matters’] programs are offered to those students who may need extra assistance in the core subjects. A particular emphasis is placed on literacy, numeracy and information technology – all Grades 3, 4, 5&6 students are issued with either iPads or notebook computers whilst Foundation – 2 have access to iPads, notebook computers and hand-held iPods.
The school prides itself in its Foundation [‘Flying Start’] Transition program. Commencing in Term 2, the kindergarten students who are to start at TVPS the following year visit the school on regular occasions. This means that they are relaxed and confident when they commence school. A buddy from Grade 6 is allocated to each Foundation student, assisting in making the transition as seamless as possible. This is known as the “Big Friends, Little Friends” program. Student leadership is important and school captains, house leaders, Junior School Council members and environmental leaders are selected annually. Each Monday morning at assembly, as well as singing the National Anthem, we celebrate birthdays and give certificates to Students of the Week.
The teaching staff members at TVPS are friendly, committed and approachable. They strive to deliver quality programs and take extra care in learning about the unique and special abilities of each child. There are specialist teachers in Art, Music, Physical Education, Chinese [Mandarin], Performing Arts, Library, Literacy Support [‘Reading Matters’] & EMU Maths. A biennial school production and art competitions allow students to extend themselves in the visual and performing arts.
Parental involvement in whole school programs is welcomed. Our school council president, Mr Chris Avramopoulos, encourages parents to nominate for school council and to serve on its various sub-committees. A visit to Templestowe Valley Primary School leaves a lasting impression. You are welcome to visit the school at any time by telephoning the office on 8850-5777 to arrange a tour. At T.V.P.S. we “Aim High” to bring out the best in our students
